• Donatien Edgard Furminot is a renowned local and international carving artist who has represented Seychelles in countless exhibitions both locally and abroad and owns a craft studio workshop known as “Sailfish creation” at Anse a La Mouche.
• His maiden exhibition was in 1996, Donatien represented Seychelles in the Salon Mondial du Tourisme à la Porte de Versailles in Paris, then in 2002 the UNESCO’s Salon International de l’Artisanat, in Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso, in 2009 2nd Pan African Cultural Festival in Alger, in 2011 he represented Seychelles in Botswana in the SMME conference and fair, in 2012 he was selected to participate in a workshop on coconut shell carving in Hainan province South China, where he gained ample of experience through an exchange program, in 2014, he was selected to attend “Festival de Metisse” in Reunion island, in February 2017, he represented Seychelles in the Surajkund International Craft Melai in Haryana, India.
• Donatien Edgard Furminot has been certified as a foreign expert of Hainan Provincial Arts and Crafts Society for the period of December 2018 to December 2023 during an exchange program he attended in China.
• Donatien describes his work as pieces that Tells Time, tradition and history. His works are a confluence of his passion for woodworking, the Arts & Crafts style, function (he is art teacher by profession), and fine craftsmanship.

• Donatien builds his woodcraft mostly from coconut and accents of natural wood.
• Donatien has been a woodworker by avocation for many years. He learned his trade starting in high school wood shop, and continued through many years of experience and supplemental courses in wood turning, architectural and furniture carving, and joinery.
• For more than three decades now, Donatien, specialist in wood, bamboo, and coconut shell carving is teaching his skills and expertise to the younger generation in the hope of transmitting and keeping alive Seychellois Culture and Tradition leaving a beautiful legacy behind him. Currently he is a part-time lecturer at S.I.A.D., Seychelles institute of Advanced Studies and other times he can be found in his studio at Anse à la Mouche.
